I will add that, in normal situations the models with laminated back and sides are a very good choice, they may not be as loud as the solid models. The newer MASTERWORKS series (CYM) models, are also all solid. Hello, There were only a few of the older CY Limited Edition models that happened to have all solid tonewoods. I just wonder which CY series are build with real solid rosewood not laminated? (I'm still looking).Īnyway, with some photo's of the label (close enough to read) the top, front of headstock and back of your guitar would help to possibly give you more info on the model you have. I have a few early classicals he made, that also have info on the heelblock, that starts with G, and so far I haven't been able to find any info that explains what it stands for. Sadao was know for switching things around quite often (labels, brands, etc.), so this isn't all that surprising. Others have no letter in front, some have two, such as KM, sometimes the numbers come first, other times the letter(s). it had something to do with when it was built (summer).

there was also the idea that the ones that are marked S 108 (actual number) the S was for Sadao, not so. The numbers have nothing to do with the date (such as a guitar that may have 69 2 24 on the heelblock, meaning it was made in 1969 FEB 24). Īs for the info on the heelblock, Sadao Yairi had his own system. You can post some pix here, or you can e-mail them to me at. While your description is well done, there's nothing like SEEING it, to be able to know what it is exactly. Any more input on this thing will be appreciated, and thanks again. As for this 300 - just a really nice little guitar. The other will be swapped in for some work, when this one is done, and I'll be glad to give you the rundown on it, when I get my hands on it. All in all - a fine guitar with what I refer to as a "dainty" appearance. The owner of the guitar couldn't be sure, whether it was this, or another "Yairi" he has, that was bought in Sydney, Aus., in the late 60s. No marks, whatsoever, on the inside of the top. However, on the neck block, is stamped: G.279, and I wonder if this isn't indicative, in any way, of its birth date. EXTREMELY well built, sometime in the late 60s, as I understand the owner's story.

It is a Mahogany facade, with a black-white-black center "spline." No idea. The headstock facade is interesting, with a either three or five pieces. This seems to be a two piece solid Cedar top, the bridge is Mahogany (I believe), back and sides are laminate Mahogany, and the fretboard is Rosewood. Headed toward the lower bout, on the inside of the back, is stamped Sada Yairi, with Nagoya Japan underneath. Hello to all - I'm currently doing some work on a "S.yairi" 300, as the paper label states, and have really learned a lot, from what I've read here.
